Our Lord does not keep us guessing about whether or not we are forgiven. When the priest utters the words of absolution, your soul is instantly and completely healed. Sacramentally, Jesus is present in the confessional in the person of the priest. If He were here on earth, wouldn’t you ask Him for forgiveness? If you want to experience the Divine Mercy in a real way, confession is the way to do it!!

  • Palm Sunday

Sunday Apr 10, 2022 All day

On the Sunday before His death, Jesus began His trip to Jerusalem, knowing that soon He would lay down His life for our sins. Jesus sat on the young donkey and slowly, humbly, made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The crowds welcomed Him by waving palm branches in the air and shouting, "Hosanna to the son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"

Monday Apr 11, 2022

  • Monday of Holy Week

Monday Apr 11, 2022 All day

The following morning, Jesus returned with His Disciples to Jerusalem. When Jesus arrived at the Temple, He found the courts full of corrupt money changers. He began overturning their tables and clearing the Temple saying, "The Scripture declare, 'My Temple will be a house of prayer, but you have turned it into a den of thieves." Luke 19:46

Tuesday Apr 12, 2022

  • Tuesday of Holy Week

Tuesday Apr 12, 2022 All day

On this day, in the morning, Jesus and His Disciples returned to Jerusalem. They passed the withered fig tree on their way, and Jesus spoke to them about the importance of faith. Back at the Temple, religious leaders were upset at Jesus for establishing Himself as a spiritual authority. They organized an ambush with the intent to place Jesus under arrest.

Wednesday Apr 13, 2022

  • Spy Wednesday

Wednesday Apr 13, 2022 All day

“Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was one of the twelve; he went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers of the temple police about how he might betray Jesus to them. They were greatly pleased and agreed to give him money. So he consented and began to look for an opportunity to betray Him to them when no crowd was present.” Luke 22:3-6

Spy Wednesday gets its name because this is the day on which Judas betrayed Jesus to the Sanhedrin.

  • Tenebrae

    Wednesday Apr 13, 2022 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM

Join Father James and the Choir of St. Joseph on this mini religious retreat, Tenebrae, (ten-eh-bray) which consists of hymns and readings, the ones proper to Lauds and Matins for the days of the Triduum. We call today, Spy Wednesday. This day gets its name from the actions of Judas Iscariot. "Then went one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot to the chief priests, and said to them: What will you give me, and I will deliver him unto you? But they appointed him thirty pieces of silver. And from thenceforth he sought opportunity to betray him." Matthew 26

We will walk with Christ to the cross and tomb through Scripture and song.  There are 7 candles on the altar, known as the Tenebrae hearse, and after each reading, one candle will be extinguished. The vanishing light in the church from the extinguished candles reminds us that we, as sinners, without Christ, “dwell in darkness.” There will be 1 candle left, representing Christ, the lights will go out and you will hear a loud strepitus, which will symbolize the earthquake that followed Christ's death.

This is a first for St. Joseph Church and we hope to continue this event each year during Holy Week. Please bring your family and friends to this profoundly moving and prayerful service.

Thursday Apr 14, 2022

  • Holy Thursday

    Thursday Apr 14, 2022 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Today is Holy Thursday. During the Last Supper, Jesus offers himself as the Passover sacrifice, the sacrificial lamb, and teaches that every ordained priest is to follow the same sacrifice in the exact same way. Christ also bids farewell to his followers and prophesizes that one of them will betray him and hand him over to the Roman soldiers. At this Mass, the Priest washes the feet of twelve priests to symbolize Christ’s washing of His twelve Apostles, our first bishops and priests.

Join Father James at Mass at 7pm followed by Adoration from 8 pm to 11 pm.

If you are able to sit with Our Lord at Adoration for 1 hour, please contact the Parish Office at parishoffice@sjchb.org. Thank you to those who faithfully volunteer!

  • Adoration

    Thursday Apr 14, 2022 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Adoration will begin after the Mass of the Lord's Supper at 8pm until 11pm. All are encouraged to come and sit with Our Lord. The benefits one receives from Adoration are much, much more than sitting home watching TV. Think about it, Christ gave up His life for you and all He asks for is 1 hour.

What are the fruits of Eucharistic Adoration?
“This is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him, will
have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day” (Jn 6:40)
Jesus wants it. He made this very clear when He appeared to St. Margaret Mary and said “I
have a burning desire to be honored in the Blessed Sacrament.
It deepens our understanding of the Mass.
It helps us appreciate Priesthood. “No Priests no Eucharist”.
People who observe regular weekly Eucharistic Adoration experience a deeper devotion to
Jesus. “The act of Adoration outside of Mass prolongs and intensifies all that takes place in
the Liturgical Celebration itself” (Pope Benedict XVII)
It leads to a growth in holiness. “There is no doubt that a flood of graces will descend upon
your family and the world if more souls would become pupils of the Eucharist” (Pope John
    XXIII)
Eucharistic Adoration affords us the opportunity to experience greater inner peace and
    contentment.
It enables us to make reparation for sins committed especially sins against the Blessed
    Sacrament.
It gives us an opportunity to experience many extra graces and blessings for ourselves, our
families and our parish community. (St. John Bosco)
It is an established fact that where Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is worshipped and
adored, vocations flourish. “Ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers into His harvest”
    (Mt 9:38)
“Eucharistic Adoration extends its influence far beyond the individual adorers, touching their
homes and families and reaching out to the parish community and beyond” (Pope Paul VI)
“Come to Me all who labor and are burdened during your life and more consolation at the
hour of death” (St. Alphonsus Ligouri)
Attendance at Adoration is a wonderful generous response to the invitation from our Divine
Lord “Could you not watch one hour with Me”?
“DO YOU WANT THE LORD TO GIVE YOU MANY GRACES? VISIT HIM OFTEN”

Friday Apr 15, 2022

  • Passion of the Lord

    Friday Apr 15, 2022 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Today we observe the commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Good Friday is a day of fasting within the Church. Do not let this day go by as just any other day of the year. Take time to contemplate all that Christ’s death on the cross signifies for us.

The Passion of the Lord begins at 3pm. We will meditate on the Passion of the Lord and venerate the Cross. You will receive Communion which was consecrated on Holy Thursday.

    O saving Victim, opening wide
The gate of heaven to all below:
    Our foes press on from every side;
Thine aid supply, Thy strength bestow.

To Thy great Name be endless praise,
    Immortal Godhead, One in Three!
O grant us endless length of days
In our true native land with Thee.
    Amen.
